Dream your friends forward brought together a group to collectively engage in and consider the act of neighbourly foraging. We contemplated how acts of companionship and exchange enable us to cultivate new ways of being that put forward alternative economies, and build upon forms of knowledge that emerge from our surrounding environment, neighbours and soon-to-be friendships.
The workshop consisted of two parts. First, we foraged together in Cherryvale Playing Fields, where we encountered seasonal ingredients that contributed to the second part of the workshop - the creation of a batch of fruit syrup. The syrup was made in an alleyway that runs between Ardmore and Rossmore avenue in Belfast, made with neighbours and residents.
Throughout the workshop, we discussed sustainable foraging practices that encourage we harvest ethically, and think about how this slow and thoughtful act creates the foundation for empathetic and neighbourly approaches to artistic practice.
The workshop formed part of the wider project The garden cannot be unplanted, which also included the event Feeding Houses as part of a 9ft in common commission.Ā
