companion planting,
a series of nomadic gatherings
ongoing
These gatherings take the form of an informal reference and discussion group engaging around collective sharings that aim to re-imagine future arts organisations.
companion planting is a series of gatherings that create space for the interrogation of capitalist institutional practices and to challenge hyperproductivity, hierarchy, urgency and progress-oriented logic. In the gatherings, the group share readings, listenings, watchings and examples that identify ways of supporting practitioners, staff and (often underpaid) contractors as they journey through institutions. Together, we propose to lay the groundwork to consider alternative organisational and governance structures within the north of Ireland, finding collective strategies of resistance and support.
This builds on a series of writing made for LUMIN’s Local 37 Broadcast at Peak Cymru, expanding on themes of the artists’ labour and autonomy. You can read / listen to the writings here.
The first series of gatherings is underway, taking place in person in Belfast across artist-led library resources. If you are interested in joining, or reading our resource list, email cecelia.ac.graham@gmail.com.
